Thank you very much for your letter to my husband, the photo of "Lt. Gillen" (which I return as you may like to have it back).
I am sorry to inform you that my husband died last October shortly after his 82nd birthday. He suffered from cancer for 7 years, not knowing the cause of his illness; but he kept up hope, an upright appearance, his marvelous good looks and bright intelligence to the last moment.
It is a pity you found our address so late. I am sure he would have enjoyed seeing you again and remembered your "special arrangement" in 1945. I would very much appreciate if you would send me the "diary." I am very grateful to you for having kept it for us all these years.
Fancy you remembering our having a son and two daughters. Our oldest daughter is married to an American and lives in New Hampshire. Our second in Germany, and our son near Munich, which is lucky for me. He was a great help to me when my husband died. I have five grandchildren; one beautiful girl of 24 years studying law in New Hampshire, two in Kassel, and my son has a sweet girl of 10 and a darling little boy of three. I can well understand how proud you and your wife are of your grandchildren.
I wonder if you see Prof. Deutsch? Could you give me his address since he evidently doesn't know my husband is dead.
I would enjoy very much meeting you and Mrs. Dolibois some day when you are again in Europe and I'm looking forward to hearing from you and receiving the diary and photos. Thank you very much in advance.
